The following are instructions designed to guide you through removing the Enterprise edition of McAfee Endpoint Security from self-managed, university-owned machines running Mac OS only.

Note: If your computer is managed by UMass Amherst IT, do not attempt to remove the client on your own. Please contact your administrator.

These instructions are technical. If you are not comfortable with any of the following steps, please contact IT User Services or visit the Help Center before proceeding:

McAfee software can not be loaded on computers located outside the United States. McAfee Endpoint Security for Mac 10.5.7 (10.12 and 10.13) McAfee Endpoint Security for Mac 10.6.7 (10.14+) Supported Platforms. MacOS 10.12 and higher (including 10.15) with at least 2 GB RAM. Getting the Software. Go to the Software Download site. The myth that Macs don’t suffer malware attacks has been. I have had this same problem since I installed McAfee Total Protection about a year ago on my late 2012 MAC Mini with 4 GB of RAM. I am currently running MacOS Catalina 10.15.4 with supplemental update, and Total Protection 4.8.0.0. Every 2-3 days, the VShieldscanner consumes all the free memory, rendering the system inoperable.

1. In the upper right corner of your screen, click the Spotlight Search icon in the menu bar. Type Terminal and press Enter to launch a Terminal window.
2. In the Terminal window, type 'sudo su' and press Enter. Enter your computer's administrator password.
3. In the Terminal window, type '/usr/local/McAfee/uninstall EPM3' and press Enter.
   Note: 'EPM3' refers to the product version. If EPM3 doesn't work, try EPM, EPM1, and/or EPM2 for earlier versions. If these do not work, try EPM4, EPM5, etc. until the command runs succesfully.
4. In the Terminal window, type 'sudo /Library/McAfee/cma/scripts/uninstall.sh' andpress Enter. Enter your computer's administrator password.
5. Fully reboot the computer.
6. After rebooting, follow step 1 again to launch a Terminal window.
7. In the Terminal window, type each of the following commands, pressing Enter after each:
   1. 'cd /usr/local/'
   2. 'rm -rf McAfee/'
   3. 'cd /Library/LaunchDaemons/'
   4. 'rm -rf com.mcafee.*'
   5. 'cd /Library/LaunchAgents/'
   6. 'rm -rf com.mcafee.*'
   7. 'cd /Library/Preferences/'
   8. 'rm -rf com.mcafee.*'
8. Fully reboot the computer.
